Fashion Insiders Are Calling the “Waterfall Bob” the Most Elegant and Wearable Hairstyle of the Summer

Bob haircuts may still be dominating every trend report right now, but I’ve never seriously considered parting ways with my long hair. Of course, whenever I spot a sleek blunt bob or a sharp asymmetric cut, I briefly imagine trying something different. Still, I always come back to the same conclusion—long hair just feels more like me. I’ve worn it this way for years, and nothing beats soft, undone waves during the warmer months.

One hairstyle I’m especially obsessed with lately is what I like to call “waterfall” waves. Think glossy, cascading curls with that smooth, fluid finish that looks completely effortless. It’s the kind of hairstyle that instantly makes you look polished without trying too hard. Naturally, I’ve been relying heavily on my curling wand and shine spray to recreate the effect at home.

That’s why I was genuinely surprised when one celebrity hairstyle almost convinced me to finally go shorter. The look? A dreamy waterfall-inspired bob worn by none other than Carey Mulligan.

Carey’s bob has always been iconic, but these soft, flowing waves bring an entirely new energy to the cut. The texture feels relaxed yet elegant, while the movement gives the hairstyle that expensive-looking summer finish everyone wants right now. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes one of the defining bob trends of the season.

What makes the waterfall bob stand out is how versatile it feels. It has the sophistication of a classic bob, but the loose waves keep it modern, wearable and effortlessly cool. Whether styled with a middle part, paired with a fringe or given a slightly beachy texture, the look somehow always appears chic.

Emma Stone’s glossy version is the perfect example of understated glamour, while creators like Frann Fyne and Lindsey Holland prove just how wearable the trend is day-to-day. Rochelle Humes shows how beautifully a centre part complements the style, and Rose Byrne’s textured finish gives the haircut a more relaxed, coastal feel. Even the softer, ethereal versions of the look feel elevated and fashion-forward.

If there’s one hairstyle trend convincing long-haired people like me to rethink everything this summer, it’s definitely the waterfall bob.
