Summer is upon us and the mercury is rising, and usually your hair is the last thing on your mind. With the heat and humidity, your main priorities are pulling your hair off your neck, out of your face and keeping it healthy and protected in the process. However, when you have the perfect summer outfit, manicure and makeup, it’s only natural you want your hair to look just as chic, especially when summer is the season for holidays, festivals and weddings – and when there are so many fun hair trends to get on board with.
To avoid the same boring habits I fall into every summer – throwing my hair into a messy bun hairstyle and calling it a day – I’ve compiled an edit of the best easy summer hairstyles. From fun ways to wear hair accessories to beach hairstyles for all hair types, lengths and textures, these styles all share one thing—these low maintenance hairstyles are as easy as it gets.
Easy Summer Hairstyles
1. buns

This cute style is a great way to show off hair length and texture but still keep it out of your face. Extra points for adding ribbons.
2. Turns

If your hair is textured, try twists instead of braids.
3. Slicked Back Bun

For summer, the classic slicked-back bun is perfect – use a strong-hold gel to prevent frizz and keep the style sleek.
4. small braids

This fast and simple style is a popular option to change up hair for a festival or holiday. It’s a great hair style for short hair, bob hairstyles and longer lengths too.
5. Low pony

Longer styles can be a struggle in the summer months, but can easily be twisted back into a low bun. Simple.
6. Air-dry naturally

Love the idea of beachy waves? Enhance your natural texture with a cocktail of hair cream or a hair serum on the lengths, and let it air-dry.
7. Off the shoulders

If you are thinking of a short cut from long hair, this is the time of year when you will appreciate the benefits of an off-the-shoulder style like a bob.
8. Single braid

A classic and incredibly low maintenance style that never fails if you have longer hair.
9. Topknot

Scoop your hair up all the way on warmer days — always a winner.
10. Bun clip clip

Claw clips hairstyles and ’90s tendrils are a fool-proof summer hair combo.
11. Hidden layers

If you have shorter layers towards the front, pinning back a few pieces is a fun way to change it up—and keep you cool.
12. Half Up Half Down With Claw Clip

To create a more relaxed look that emphasises highlights and balayage, pull your hair back into a loose bun. A small claw clip ties the look together. Keeps it interesting
13. 90s headband

Elasticated headbands are both practical and on-trend to keep hair off your face, but wear it loose.
14. All Done

A head scarf or wrap is a chic and easy way to protect textured hair from the elements in summer.
15. Smooth high pony

To easily hide third (or fourth) day hair, slick hair back from roots to a high ponytail and run a straightener through the lengths.
16. Beach ponytail

If wearing your hair down with beachy waves is too much around your neck, gather the length of your hair into a low ponytail that sits just above the nape of your neck for a style that will still show off your curls while keeping you cool.
17. Half up half down hair

This easy style is a go-to if you want to keep your hair off your face but want to wear it down.
18. Bright bandanna

Simple summer style with a bold print bandana to match your outfit.
19. Messy bun hairstyle

Long hair? Go for a cool and practical look by wearing your hair high in a messy bun.
20. Flowers in hair

An easy way to upgrade a simple updo or messy bun is with a floral accessory. Some face-framing tendrils keep it looking chic and casual.
21. Rapid turn

The easiest way to keep your hair out of your face this summer—and to delay an overdue hair wash by another day…
22. Back braid

Low-maintenance braids are a summer option for long, curly or coily hair. If you love to keep your hair out of your face in the hot weather, this braided back style is even better.
23. Wash n’ go

Want to change it up a bit for summer? Air-dry your coils and say goodbye to braid-outs and twist-outs.
24. Curls Beachy

Stock up on curl-enhancing creams and salt sprays to keep curls and waves bouncy and buoyant.
25. Bubble pigtails

Bubble ponytails and pigtails are still going strong, and are a fun (and easy) way to upgrade your hairstyle for summer.
26. Cuteclips

A fun and easy way to accessorise hair when you’re on the go or in a rush, plus an opportunity to nod to the current trend for Y2K nostalgia.
27. Braided updo

If it gets too hot, put your braids up in a full bun.
28. Sun hat

Fashionable and safe. Take a break from the rays with a stylish sun hat for your scalp. It doubles as an extra line of defence too, with the SPF.
29. Plait low side

A failsafe for those hot days in the office, a side plait looks stylish and intentional – like having the weight and bother of your hair off your neck is a sartorial choice more than a necessity.
30. Extra large scrunchie

There are scrunchies and then there are big scrunchies. My preference is strongly for the latter. They add drama and flair with a lovely feminine touch. For the sake of your hair, choose silk or satin fabric.
31. Stiff headband

Our friends over the pond may call them Alice bands but to us plain old ‘headbands’ describe them perfectly. They’re part nostalgic, like the plastic thing you’d put in your hair before school, and part elegant, like what a French woman running errands might wear.
32. Cap baseball

Super practical for sunny days, but also super on trend for summer.
33.Wet look

This style is fail-proof, whether you want to go for the real thing or use a gel to create a fake wet look.
34. Hair accessory on low bun

How cute is Elsa Hosk’s wet look bun? Easily dressed up with a chic shell hair piece.
35. Updo on waves
