“Cookies were my biggest weakness,” she says with a smile. “It was not only about the flavour. They gave me comfort and had become part of my daily routine.”
Looking for a More Balanced Approach
After spending years dealing with frequent blood sugar spikes and crashes, Lia realised that she needed to change her eating habits. However, she did not want to completely remove her favourite foods or follow an overly restrictive diet.
Instead, she decided to focus on making smarter snacking choices.
“I was not ready to give up the enjoyment of food,” she explains. “I simply wanted to feel more balanced and have better control over my energy levels.”
Understanding When Cravings Appeared
Lia began observing when her strongest cravings usually appeared. Most of them happened during the middle of the afternoon or late at night.
These were the times when her energy dropped and her mind immediately started asking for something sweet. Rather than ignoring the cravings or trying to fight them, Lia decided to prepare for them in advance.
Replacing Sugary Snacks With Low-Carb Options
She gradually replaced mindless sugary snacks with low-carb alternatives that still felt enjoyable and satisfying.
Her favourite choices included a spoonful of almond butter sprinkled with cinnamon, a square of dark chocolate served with a handful of nuts, and coconut yoghurt topped with fresh berries.
“It was never about denying myself,” she says. “It was about giving my body something it genuinely needed—food that felt satisfying while keeping my energy more stable.”
Cravings Started to Become Weaker
Within a few weeks, Lia began noticing a difference. Her cravings became less intense, and the urge to reach for sweets after lunch slowly disappeared.
Her mood remained more consistent throughout the day, and she experienced fewer energy crashes. Most importantly, she continued to enjoy and look forward to her snacks.
“It is not about being perfect,” Lia says. “It is about being prepared.”
Making Low-Carb Eating Part of Everyday Life
Today, Lia no longer sees her low-carb lifestyle as a difficult challenge. It has simply become part of her normal routine.
She plans satisfying snacks, understands her craving patterns, and makes choices that help her feel balanced without removing all enjoyment from food.
Enjoying Treats Without Guilt
Lia still allows herself to enjoy a cookie occasionally. The difference is that she no longer feels controlled by it or guilty after eating it.
“I can enjoy it because I know it is no longer the centre of my day,” she says with a smile. “It is simply a treat now, not a trap.”
